HARD METALS TRAINING 2012
From 1st January 2012, hard metals training courses will incorporate both copper and zinc detailing with instructors explaining and demonstrating the similarities in – and differences between – each metal when setting out and installing.
During the third quarter 2012, it is planned to introduce stainless steel detailing on the same basis.
Individual instruction is available at Basic and Intermediate levels and from 1st July 2012 Advanced level training will also be available which will primarily focus on curved and heritage work
Each course is over 5 days and will be delivered at the LSA Roof Training Centre at East Peckham, near Tonbridge, Kent. All tools and equipment are provided and local B&B accommodation is available.

Zinc Training Courses
The following dates in 2010 have now been agreed for the delivery of training courses in the design and installation of zinc roofing sheets. The courses are organised by the FTMRC at the LSA Roof Training Centre in East Peckam, Kent. Trainers, tools, material and equipment are provided by VM Zinc.

Soldering techniques
Theoretical presentaion and approach to standing seams
Installation and crimping of standing seam trays
Eaves and ridge finishing (basic technique using saddle piece)
Finishing a chimney detail with soldering
Installation of a verge with capping or fascia
Bay end detailing
Intermediate Level
Review of soldering techniques
Hips
Valleys
Chimney with U-section
Ventilation pipe
Alternatives for ridge and end finishing (curved, pinched seam, etc)
Advanced Level
Dormer, curved and square

The FTMRC is now providing a programme of training courses in traditional hard metals at the new Metal Roof Academy at the Building Crafts College in Stratford, East London.
Using a customised facility incorporating life size rigs and roof models, each course lasts three days and is open to both members and non members of the FTMRC.
The courses are delivered by experienced trainers from the leading European manufacturers of the base metal product and all materials, tools and equipment are provided
