FIRST GOLF MATCH A HUGE SUCCESS

Teams from the LCA and FTMRC compete in the first of what is sure to become a popular annual event.

On 12th August, undaunted by some decidedly unfriendly weather, forty golfers ventured out onto the superb Championship course at the Forest of Arden to take part in the first ever golf match between the Lead Contractors Association and the Federation of Traditional Metal Roofing Contractors.

Fortified by breakfast rolls filled with bacon carved from a gammon joint, each player was presented with complimentary golf balls and a welcome pack sponsored by Associated Lead Mills. The two teams were comprised of ten pairs, playing against each other in four balls with the best combined stableford score winning each hole and one point for the team total.

With 180 points at stake, the FTMRC eventually ran out narrow winners by 94½ to 85½, leaving the LCA team to pay the forfeit of providing the wines at the presentation dinner.

Within the intrigue of the overall main match there were also several sub-plots in the form of individual and pairs prizes, thanks to a considerable amount of generous sponsorship for the event provided by members and associates from both organisations.

The outstanding performance was from Sandy Harrison of KME, whose 40 points won him the individual top spot, narrowly beating Calvin Moran (Skyline) and Shaun Ward (Norman & Underwood). The individual prizes were sponsored by Jamestown Metal Resources.

The best pair’s performance was Calvin Moran and Dean Whiting from Salmon Plumbing (2), scoring 6 points more than Salmon Plumbing (1), represented by Chris Salmon and Andy Cox. The overall pairs prizes were sponsored by Associated Lead Mills.

Final match (Associated Lead Mills v Luvata) enjoy the best of the weather

The best LCA pair was David Eeles and Mike Cheeseman from Q & M Services and the best FTMRC pair was Shaun Ward and Jason Morris from Norman and Underwood. The team pair’s prizes were sponsored by Royston Lead.

There were also four nearest the pin prizes, sponsored by Norman & Underwood, two longest drive prizes sponsored by NDM (Metal Roofing & Cladding) and a putting competition sponsored by Salmon (Plumbing).

Out on the course, the Forest of Arden team were busy recording a DVD of the event, sponsored by D Blake and Co, which proved to be a great source of amusement and entertainment when played back during the evening.

Throughout the day everyone was very well looked after by the Forest of Arden golf professional team, whose services, including registration, scorecards, scoring and leader board were sponsored by VM Zinc.

Both the LCA and the FTMRC wish to thank everyone that took part on the day and made such a huge success. In particular we would like to thank those organisations that provided the invaluable sponsorship which enabled the organisers to further enhance the event with some quality prizes, superb gifts and magnificent professional support.
